my red kettle

(taken with sx-70 on 600 film)

hi.
though it's not hot yet this morning (actually a meteorologist in the morning news said that there will be another hot day today.), i'v been thinking about something red so far this morning.
there's no reason.
just something red came and went one after another.

so, my red kettle.
i want to pick that up for a today's blog topic because i'm now brewing coffee. (of course, hot water was boiled in the red kettle.)

the pic above was taken last winter.
the strange thing next to the kettle is so-called "yu-tampo" in japanese.
i don' t know the english name for this.
in case those who don't know about that, it is used to warm your feet and every your body parts up with hot water being poured and wrapped with some clothes up.
of course, i don't need that now.
i use that mostly in autumn and winter and early spring.
well, other than summer.
when i use yu-tampo, i need my red kettle.

in hot summer days, i only use the kettle when i brew coffee and tea.
as i prefer drinking hot drinks even in the middle of the summer, it is necessity.

one day, when i was about to brew coffee, i was waiting in my den for hot water to be ready in the kettle on the stove.
then something terrible happened.
i forgot about being about to brew coffee.
totally forgot about my red kettle on the stove!
i sadly noticed that when i came back to the kitchen.
all the hot water supposed to be inside had gone.
her (my red kettle's) arm were being melted.
you can see that in the top pic.
look at the very right and middle of the pic, see, it's melted.
it happened couple of years ago, and i don't remember exactly when.
poor my little red kettle.
i felt so sorry about my fault that i decided to keep her in my kitchen though her melted arm part is so ugly and sometimes the shape of the gross black lump scares me.

i don't know if i like red.
as it is, there are a red kettle and a red toaster (please see the 4th last post.) in my kitchen.
i definitely like red little accents on my clothes, shoes, papers, glasses, and so on.
all red is rare, but i don't dislike them at all.

as i told you that i've been thinking of something red this morning, i at first thought to write about other red thing than my red kettle.
but i chose that because i was so close to it when i started to write this post.
so, i'll write about another red thing today i missed next time.

dear my red kettle, (i know this is the first love letter after a long hiatus, and sorry about that.)
have you been recovered from your terrible burn already?
i have been felt so sorry for that.
have you accepted my apology?
i hope you feel better and intimate with me.
love,
tomily

I'm so glad the kettle is only a little melted, and that it didn't destroy your house...
The yu-tampo is simply called hot water bottle, I think. I'm not English either :)

I love red, but I don' have many red things or clothing. Like you I prefer red as tiny accents:) In particular I just can't resist the loveliness of red stitches!!

Long live your sweet kettle!:)

>hi, annemarie!
thank you for your a kind word.
yeah, you're right, i was lucky that only thing i lost was the perfect shape of the red kettle's arm.
though i admit that luckiness, i still misse the old flawless red kettle.

i looked up the emglish word for "yu-tampo" because i expected that english has its original pretty name for that, but only word i found was "hot water bottle" as you told me!!
that's disapointing!!

>akane-chin, good morning!
yeah, red tiny stitches are so irresistible!!!
i love that too.
as i do sewing a lot, one day i noticed that red thread is a necessity for me! :))

when i remember you in a color image, it's definitely beige.
and the combination of beige and red is another irresistible color event!
